Alcohol and Heart Health!

You’ve probably heard in the media, and possibly from your doctor, that drinking “moderately” is beneficial for your heart. However, a new study has thrown that into question. If you have any heart disorder, you need to keep an AED machine with you all the time. It is readily available on AED superstores also in stores online.

There are limitations to the studies on alcohol and its effect on human health. Most research relies on self-reporting to determine the amount of alcohol consumed, and these studies typically do not account for variations in alcohol consumption throughout a lifetime.

Despite the research’s complications, it is obvious that excessive alcohol consumption (more than 14 drinks per week for males, 7 drinks for women) can lead to heart problems such as a weak heart muscle or atrial fibrillation.

What the Most Recent Research Tells Us

Two recent studies presented at the American College of Cardiology meeting called into doubt the notion that moderate alcohol use leads to healthy hearts. The first study of almost 17,000 US individuals found that drinking 7-13 beers per week increased the likelihood of developing high blood pressure by 53% and doubles the risk of stage 2 hypertension (blood pressure more than 140/90 mm Hg). This is intriguing information because, while excessive alcohol consumption has long been recognized to raise blood pressure, this is one of the first studies to show that even moderate alcohol use can have a major impact on blood pressure.
