AED Requirements Summary
- Physician Involvement
- A licensed doctor or medical expert must oversee the AED program to make sure it meets training, notification, and maintenance rules.
- CPR/AED Training
- AED owners must ensure that expected users are trained in CPR and AED use through courses by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or another recognized program.
- EMS Notification
- AED owners must inform the local emergency services or ambulance dispatch center about the AED’s location.
- Maintenance Program
- AED owners must keep the device maintained and tested based on the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Notification of Use
- If someone uses an AED to help a person in cardiac arrest, they must contact emergency medical services as soon as possible.
