Summary of Requirements

Physician: No laws currently require a physician’s involvement.
CPR/AED Training: No laws currently require CPR or AED training.
EMS Notification: To qualify for an AED program grant, a local health board, community group, or city must inform local emergency medical services (EMS) about plans to start an early defibrillation program.
AED Maintenance:
The person or group responsible for the AED must keep it maintained and checked according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Keep records of all maintenance and inspections for as long as the AED is usable.
Make sure the AED is set up to follow national guidelines for treating cardiac arrest patients.
Notification of Use: No laws currently require reporting when an AED is used.
